The redesigned 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class line wouldn’t be complete without a wagon.
This photo of what could be the genuine article was leaked by Italy’s Quattroroute magazine (via LeftLane News), making the rounds on the Internet well ahead of the C-Class wagon’s anticipated 2014 Geneva Motor Show debut in March.
Naturally, the wagon isn’t much different from the 2015 C-Class sedan. Adding some class to this family hauler are brushed aluminum roof rails, a rear spoiler, and a sloping roofline that’s fairly pleasing to the eye.
The wagon will launch in Europe later this year with a range of four-cylinder engines. The base C180 will sport a 1.6-liter gasoline unit with 154 hp, the C220 will get 2.0 liters and 181 hp, and the C220 BlueTec will have a 2.1-liter turbo diesel four, with 168 hp.
In comparison, the C-Class will be available in the U.S. as either a C300 4Matic with a 235 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four, or a C400 4Matic with a 329 hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6.
However, U.S. buyers probably won’t get the C-Class wagon.
Americans tend to like crossovers more than wagons, which is why the previous-generation C-Class wagon wasn’t sold here. Still, the 2015 C-Class wagon would make a perfect rival for the BMW 328i and 328d xDrive Sports Wagons.
It would also be great to see a C63 AMG wagon, as a sort of Mini Me version of the tyrannical E63 AMG.
